The Concept Art Copy of Safin’s Island would have been distributed amongst Production Crew during filming. The A3-sized copy depicts various entrance points of the island that served as a chemical manufacturing plant & military facility located near the coast of Japan. These scenes were actually filmed at Kalsoy in the Faroe Islands, and also on sets based at Pinewood Studios. Colour copies were regularly created from the original concept renderings so as to be distributed amongst SFX Crew, Set Decorators & Action Sequence Coordinators. This one comes mounted inside a framed display (21 x 17 inches overall) & was obtained from a member of the Crew when filming concluded.
The Poison Garden first appeared in ‘You Only Live Twice’ as the ‘Garden of Death’. On this remote island created to be somewhere between Japan and Russia, Safin pioneered a ‘Zen’-style garden.
