This is a model aircraft wheel used in Director Michael Caton-Jones’ Film about the last mission of an American Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress Bomber. The 23cm diameter wheel is made from synthetic resin over a biscuit foam & includes metallic painted detailing. This wheel was part of one of the intricately constructed larger scale models of the B-17 aircraft used in the film, & has been cut in half to appear as though it had risen into it’s wing compartment. The curved line of the wheel was retained for shots which included the underside of the aircraft. This fascinating prop comes displayed on a polished black acrylic base (16x10”) with a corresponding descriptive plaque. There is some visible wear from use on set; particularly where a part of the wheel has been worn away to reveal the foam underneath, but it otherwise remains in fine condition. Accompanies Provenance.
